Hello and welcome to the community engagement for the proposed development of new housing at the Former Forest Lodge Education Centre.
This engagement is now closed, but comments and suggestions are still welcome.
This interactive website will guide you through the proposals for the site, and towards the end ask you to complete a short survey to gain your views.
Your views on our proposals really do matter to us. The feedback we
receive will be used to improve the scheme and will accompany any
planning application we make in future.
This consultation will close on Sunday 11th June 2023.
Look out for red highlighted text like this - it will indicate interactive features on the map.
Former Forest Lodge Education Centre |
The site is located adjacent to Forest Lodge Academy between
Charnor Road and Knowles Road.
At the moment the site contains the Former Forest Lodge Education
Centre, which has now been closed for a number of years.
Leicester City Council, with the help of some external funding,
have identified this site as an opportunity to deliver new affordable
council homes for Leicester residents.

The existing buildings have been unused for too long, falling into disrepair and
potentially attracting anti-social behaviour. The Council proposes to take these
buildings down and to build new council housing as part of its commitment to
deliver 1,500 new council homes by 2023.
The proposed scheme can be broken down into 3 key areas:
At the moment, the school shares the car park of the Education Centre. We are proposing to change this by giving the school a new secure private car park, as part of redeveloping the site.

Existing hedgerow |
Our proposals consider the existing housing that surrounds the site.
We want to respect these homes, whilst creating a new secure neighbourhood.
The proposals aim to contribute to the community, delivering new, high-quality
homes for families on the housing waiting list.
Each house will have its own front door and residents will share in the new
well-lit, landscaped public streets, paths, and green spaces. Houses will
overlook the new streets and also onto Charnor Road.

Information about the proposals |
The part of the site closest to Knowles Road currently has a number of trees
which will be protected. We would like this to be a new public green space for
residents to enjoy. New planting and ponds will increase the biodiversity of
the site and attract wildlife.
Public green space has a great value to people and their health. We want to
create a space where people can enjoy sitting and relaxing and in which children
can play safely.
