Walking & Cycling

Moving to a new area allows us to think about new ways to travel. You can save time and money when taking shorter journeys, by walking or cycling. They can be a healthier and more enjoyable way of getting around.

Did you know: on average you can cover 1.6 km on foot or 4.8 km by bike in just 20 minutes?

info Zoom in and click on the map markers to see walking and cycling times to local facilities. These travel times are calculated from the centre of the site.

The footpaths and cycleways near your new home are well-maintained, providing safe routes for your journeys.
You can use the websites below to find suitable walking & cycling routes around your local area. You can use them to track your distance travelled, pace and calories burned:

The apps can be found on www.mapmywalk.com and www.mapmyride.com.

More information with regards to walking and cycling can also be found at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/walking-cycling-and-rights-of-way

Public Transport & Car Sharing

Buses
Using public transport helps to reduce congestion and carbon emission. Substituting a car journey for one by bus once a week will help reduce congestion by up to 20%.

Your nearest bus stops are on Kirk Ley Road, to the west of The Skylarks and Rempstone Road to the south. Bus service Navy Line 1 travels every 15 - 20 minutes towards Nottingham City Centre, taking about 45 minutes. Towards Loughborough, this service leaves every 30 minutes, taking only about 20 minutes!

If you are able to use the bus to travel to and from work or school, speak to your Travel Plan Co-ordinator. You may be able to obtain discounts via the local operators!

Bus timetables and route information is available on the following websites:

Trains
Loughborough Train station is north of Loughborough town centre, on Nottingham Road. Bus service Navy 1 takes about 15 minutes from Rempstone Road to reach Stand A at the train station.

The station provides rail services to Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham and London. Further information about the station is available at following link:

www.nationalrail.co.uk

Car Sharing
Did you know: if half the motorists in the UK received a lift one day a week, congestion and pollution would reduce by 10%?

What's more, single-occupancy driving costs more in fuel and yearly wear and tear. Find out just how much your car is costing each year by using the cost calculator at:

www.liftshare.com/uk/savings-calculator

A regular car sharer can save over £900 a year!

You can find your car sharing partner on:

Why Sustainable Travel?

The Environment
Climate change is considered to be one of the greatest environmental threats facing the world today. By reducing your car use, you can help limit climate change.

Your Health
A lack of physical activity is causing obesity in adults and children. This increases the risk of health problems including diabetes, heart disease, strokes, cancers and osteoporosis. Just 30 minutes of exercise a day can keep you and your family fit and healthy.

info Zoom into the map to explore the nearby bus services, and walking and cycling connections.

Your Money
Fuel costs are on the rise! Walking and cycling are a great way to keep fit and save money. Travelling by bus and train can reduce travel costs too!

Sustainable Travel Voucher
Each household can apply for a single sustainable travel voucher. This voucher can be used for:

  • a free three-month bus pass, if a commitment is made to travelling to and from destinations served by Navy Line 1;
  • or cycling equipment

To apply for a voucher, email your Travel Plan Co-ordinator skylarkstravel@bwbconsulting.com. This must be redeemed within three months of being issued.
